A New Home On The Horizon
Well it really is nail biting time now as I have taken the plunge & made an offer on a house here & had my offer accepted. I will be meeting my Greek lawyer & arranging the handover of the deposit to the sellers lawyer probably next week.
The contracts are not signed yet on the sale of my house in the UK but all seems to be going smoothly & my solicitor in the UK is aware I want everything to move ahead quickly. I have already given my UK solicitor power of attorney so they are able to sign everything on my behalf.
I decided to take a chance on this as there were 2 possible houses on my list & one has just gone to someone else. I didn't want to chance the same thing happening with the other. So I am in the lap of the gods at the moment - if it's meant to be then it will be The worst that can happen if it goes pear shaped is that I will lose my deposit, as is the law here.
The strange thing is that it was one of the first houses I visited when I started work, as we took the property on to advertise on our website. When we visited previously the sellers were still living there (they have since moved out) & they were selling a large upright fridge which I bought from them. It has been sitting at the house ever since waiting for me to arrange collection. So maybe it's an omen that my fridge is still there as I won't have to move it from its current location.
The house is in Pantokratoras, in a quiet area with views of surrounding countryside & of the mountains. It's also on a very good sized plot of land which will make a lovely garden when it has had a tidy up & some TLC.
There is work that I will want to have done on the house, some will involve getting professionals in & some I would look to do myself - which suits me as I have always been an avid DIYer & I'm also quite creative & can look beyond the chaos & see through to the potential in things. The price I've secured for the house will leave me with money to do the work required.
So, everything is crossed & double crossed at the moment & hopefully soon I will have my own house here that I can make a home - a little sanctuary of peace here on this paradise island of Zakynthos that is now my home.
Keep them crossed for me folks.
